Why I Chose Somatic Coaching—and Why You Might Too

When Somatic Practices Became a Lifeline for Me

When I was recovering from narcissistic abuse, somatic practices became a turning point. I was constantly reliving memories, caught in cycles of anxiety, and my body held what my mind could not sort through. Even when things were quiet on the outside, my nervous system stayed alert and overwhelmed.

Grounding, breath awareness, and simple sensory practices helped me reconnect to the present moment. I began to understand the signals my body had been sending for years. Over time, I felt safer inside myself, more centered in my choices, and steadier in my relationships. That experience inspired me to train as a somatic coach.

Why Somatic Coaching Matters in Recovery

Many people who come to me are navigating the aftershocks of emotional abuse, chronic stress, burnout, or long-standing survival responses. Their bodies are tired from carrying the weight of old patterns. Their minds are fatigued from trying to manage everything alone.

Somatic coaching helps by working directly with the body’s wisdom. It supports nervous system regulation, builds self-awareness, and creates practical tools that fit naturally into daily life. Clients often share that this work helps them feel less reactive, less anxious, and more anchored in their decisions.

This approach does not replace therapy, but it stands beside it. Coaching focuses on awareness, pattern recognition, and embodied practices that help you move from survival mode toward more stability, choice, and ease.

A Trauma-Informed, Respectful Approach

I offer a grounded, respectful space for adults who feel overwhelmed or disconnected from their bodies. I do not push quick fixes or require anyone to practice something that does not feel right. Instead, I meet clients where they are and support them in discovering what their own body is communicating.

My own lived experience and professional training in somatic coaching, trauma-informed mindfulness, and nervous system support inform my work. This combination allows me to sit with clients in a steady, compassionate way while also offering practical guidance.

Who I Work With

At Healing Arts Center in Virginia Beach, I work with clients who are navigating:

  • recovery from narcissistic abuse or emotional abuse

  • chronic stress and sensory overwhelm

  • burnout and work-related fatigue

  • difficulty trusting themselves or their decisions

  • patterns rooted in long-term survival responses

  • a desire to feel more grounded and connected

Many clients also work with therapists simultaneously. Somatic coaching complements therapy by offering body-based tools, nervous system practices, and daily routines that build more internal stability.
