Oncology Reiki in Virginia Beach: Gentle Support for People Navigating Cancer

A cancer diagnosis changes everything. The treatment plan, the daily schedule, how the body feels, and how the mind processes what is happening. For many people, conventional treatment addresses the disease but not always the full weight of living with it. The fatigue, the anxiety, the feeling of disconnection from the body — these experiences are real and deserve thoughtful attention.

Oncology Reiki is one way people navigating cancer find complementary support alongside their medical care. It is gentle, non-invasive, and specifically adapted for individuals whose bodies are under the physical and emotional demands of a cancer diagnosis, active treatment, or recovery.

What Is Oncology Reiki?

Oncology Reiki is not standard Reiki applied to cancer patients. It is a specialized practice that requires additional training and a working understanding of how cancer and its treatments affect the body. Trained practitioners learn to adapt positioning, proximity, and session length to accommodate ports, surgical sites, lymphedema, fatigue, and heightened physical sensitivity.

Sessions are typically shorter than a standard Reiki session and are designed to work with what the body is managing at that time. Nothing is forced or rushed. Every session is guided by the client's comfort and agreement.

Is Reiki Safe During Cancer Treatment?

This is one of the most common questions people ask. Oncology Reiki is considered a non-invasive complementary practice and does not interfere with chemotherapy, radiation, or surgical recovery. It does not replace medical treatment. It works alongside it.

Because oncology Reiki practitioners receive specialized training, they understand the physical considerations of cancer care. Sessions are adapted accordingly. That said, anyone undergoing active cancer treatment should consult their oncologist or healthcare provider before beginning any complementary practice.

What Can Someone Expect During a Session?

People respond differently. Some report feeling deeply relaxed or less anxious after a session. Others describe a greater sense of presence in their body. Some notice a reduction in the sense of overwhelm that often accompanies a diagnosis or active treatment. All experiences are individual and none are required or guaranteed.

Sessions are available individually and adapted to meet each person where they are in their journey.

The Experience Behind Our Practice

At Healing Arts Center, oncology Reiki is offered by Janice Landfair, Tracy Kiser, and Olivia, who have each brought their practice into clinical cancer care settings, including Sentara Brock Cancer Center in Norfolk, since 2022. Their time in those environments provided direct experience supporting patients through active treatment, recovery, and the emotional difficulty that accompanies a cancer journey.

That clinical background informs how they work. Oncology Reiki requires sensitivity, adaptability, and a clear understanding of what the body is carrying during cancer care. It is not a practice every Reiki practitioner is trained to offer.

Who Oncology Reiki May Be Appropriate For

Oncology Reiki may be a helpful option for those who are currently in active treatment, such as chemotherapy, radiation, or surgical recovery, managing the emotional and physical strain of a diagnosis, in remission and working to reconnect with their body, or supporting a loved one through a cancer journey and carrying their own emotional stress alongside that care.

Reiki as Part of a Larger Picture

At Healing Arts Center, Reiki sits alongside psychotherapy, somatic coaching, breathwork, mindfulness, and other integrative services. For people navigating cancer, having access to multiple forms of support under one roof means care does not have to feel fragmented or disconnected.

Oncology Reiki does not treat or cure cancer. It supports the person living with it.

Sliding scale available for active duty, veterans, first responders, and their families.
