Disconnected From Your Body? Embodiment Coaching Can Help
Mind · Body · Spirit Mind Body Wellness
I am offering a new service because I am seeing a need. And honestly, because I know firsthand what it feels like to need it.
Growing up with an alcoholic father, I spent years living in my imagination because it felt safer than staying present in the reality of his anger and the outcomes that followed. When the environment around you feels unpredictable and unsafe, the mind does something remarkable. It leaves. It creates distance. It disconnects you from what is happening because staying fully present would simply be too much to bear.
This is how the mind protects you. When fighting back or leaving is impossible, the nervous system finds another way out. Research confirms that when we face overwhelming or inescapable threat, the nervous system activates a shutdown response, disconnecting us from our emotions, our bodies, and sometimes even our memories of what happened. The mind leaves when the body cannot. Survival strategies, however, have a cost. Most of us do not realize we are still paying it long after the original threat is gone.
The Many Ways We Learn to Disconnect
Sometimes it is a workplace that teaches us to disconnect.
Have you ever sat in a staff meeting wondering whose turn it was to be the target today? The kind of leadership that keeps everyone off balance, where someone is always singled out, where accountability only flows downward and humiliation passes as management. Where you learn very quickly to make yourself small, stay quiet, and disconnect just enough to get through the hour.
These experiences chip away at self-trust. They teach the body that being present is dangerous and that it is safer to go somewhere else in your mind than to stay in the room. We disconnect through the big experiences and through the quiet, grinding everyday ones that nobody talks about. Each time we disengage, we rarely stop to notice the emotional, mental, and physical toll it is taking. It accumulates. It lives in the body. And eventually the body finds a way to let us know.
What I Did About It
I spent years training, attending workshops, completing certificate courses, and working with experts to understand this in myself and to learn how to support others through it. Because I could feel what the disconnection was costing me and I wanted something different.
What I found changed things. Gradually, honestly, and in ways I did not expect.
What I keep hearing from clients working with this approach surprises them every time. They are no longer avoiding the hard things. By facing what has been waiting to be felt and giving it a voice, the weight begins to lift. A sense of peace comes in that they did not think was possible, and it happens far more quickly than anyone imagined it would.
What Embodiment Coaching Is
Embodiment coaching is a body-centered approach to personal growth that works with the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. We bring the body into the room as an active participant in the process, working with breath, sensation, awareness, and movement to help you access what has been stored and build a relationship with yourself grounded in trust rather than survival.
The focus is on releasing what the past left behind so you can be more fully present in your life right now. Sessions are one on one, tailored entirely to where you are, and paced with your comfort and safety as the priority. Available in person in Virginia Beach, Virginia and online.
Who Embodiment Coaching Is For
Embodiment coaching is for anyone who feels disconnected from themselves, struggles to trust their own instincts, carries chronic stress or tension that does not seem to shift, or feels ready to do meaningful work that goes beyond conversation alone. It is also for people who have tried talk-based approaches and felt like something was missing.
You do not need any prior experience. You just need a willingness to show up.
If Any of This Sounds Familiar
If you have spent years feeling disconnected from yourself, if you learned early that it was safer to check out than to stay present, if you are carrying weight you cannot quite name but can definitely feel — this work was built for you.
Coming back to yourself one small step at a time is enough. Reach out today. I would love to connect.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is embodiment coaching? Embodiment coaching is a body-centered approach to personal growth that brings physical sensations, breath, awareness, and movement into the coaching process. Rather than working only through conversation, it supports you in accessing and processing what the body is holding so you can move through life with greater clarity, presence, and ease.
Why do people feel disconnected from their bodies? Disconnection from the body is a well-documented survival response. When the nervous system faces overwhelming or inescapable threat, it activates a shutdown response that creates distance from emotions, physical sensations, and sometimes memory. Over time, this can lead to chronic stress, difficulty trusting yourself, and a persistent sense of being cut off from your own experience.
How is embodiment coaching different from talk coaching? Talk coaching works primarily through conversation and thought. Embodiment coaching brings the body into the process as an active participant, allowing access to layers of experience that conversation alone cannot always reach and supporting deeper and often faster shifts.
What can I expect from an embodiment coaching session? Sessions are one on one and tailored entirely to where you are. They may include breathwork, somatic awareness practices, gentle movement, and guided reflection. Your comfort and sense of safety are always the priority.
Who is embodiment coaching for? Embodiment coaching is for anyone who feels disconnected from themselves, struggles to trust their own instincts, carries chronic stress or tension that does not seem to shift, or feels ready to do meaningful work that goes beyond conversation alone. No prior experience is needed.
